Where to Watch Korean in India
The complete quest — free gates, ₹79 portals, a real building in Delhi, and one gate that doesn't exist. Written for people who've never watched a single K-drama in their life.
You've heard the whispers. A friend went quiet for three weeks and came back saying oppa. Your feed is ruined.
Welcome to Hallyu — the Korean wave. And here's the news nobody tells beginners: India is secretly one of the better places on Earth to be a K-drama fan right now. Not because of anything you did — because of contracts signed in boardrooms you'll never see.
In one breath: Netflix is the grand library. Prime Video just became the real gateway — 100+ Korean titles included in your normal Prime membership, dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Free, legal, Hindi-dubbed K-dramas genuinely exist here now. And Viu — the one everyone recommends — does not work in India at all. We'll get to that one. It's a trap. 🕳️
1 · You do not need to read subtitles to begin
This is not 2015. Hindi-dubbed Korean dramas are sitting on free, legal platforms right now. Start there. Subtitles can come later, once you're in too deep to stop.
2 · "Free" in India is real, not a myth
There are ad-supported legal platforms with proper K-drama libraries. You do not have to sail the pirate seas. Also — don't. Those sites are malware dungeons with subtitles written by a confused robot.
3 · A show being unavailable here is a rights problem, not a you problem
It's not on the platform because nobody licensed it for this country yet. No amount of refreshing fixes that. Waiting does. And more often than you'd think, it arrives.
Gate One — The Grand Library
The biggest home of Korean originals in India. When Korea makes something huge, this is usually where it lands — and usually at roughly the same time it lands everywhere else on Earth.
If a K-drama has broken the internet this month, there's a decent chance it's here. Recently that's meant titles like Our Sticky Love, Mousetrap and Four Hands, Two Sonatas.
The catch: the most expensive gate, and a wide ocean. You'll drown in choices before you find your thing.
Best for: the big, brand-new, everyone-is-talking-about-it Korean shows.
→ netflix.com⭐ Gate Two — The Double Gate
This is the most important section of this guide. Read it twice.
Something genuinely big happened on 27 July 2026, and almost nobody in India outside K-drama circles noticed. Prime Video India signed a multi-year deal with CJ ENM — one of Korea's biggest studios — bringing over 100 Korean titles to India, including 26 brand-new ones over the next two years.
| The detail | Why it's huge |
|---|---|
| Included in your normal Prime membership | No add-on fee. If you already have Prime, you already have this. |
| English subtitles + Hindi, Tamil, Telugu dubs | The part that changes everything for Indian viewers. |
| 100+ titles, 26 brand new | Not a sampler. A real library. |
Arriving under this deal: Yumi's Cells Season 3 (first out of the gate), The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, Filing For Love, My Bias, My Boss, Dear X, Law in the City, Study Group, My Dearest Nemesis, Search: WWW and A Love Other Than Yours — plus beloved older ones like Legend of the Blue Sea, Prison Playbook, Mother and A Practical Guide to Love.
Prime Video India has openly said it wants to be "the gateway for Korean content in India." Right now, honestly? It is.
🗝️ And then there's the secret door: Channel K
Inside Prime Video there's a separate add-on channel called Channel K — the closest thing India has to a dedicated Korean channel. ₹79 a month, run by IMX, a Korean distributor. Korean dramas, Korean movies, K-pop concerts and reality shows — and it often lets you watch the first episode free before you commit.
If you want Korean films specifically, not just weekly dramas, this is the cheapest real door in the country. One month costs less than a plate of momos.
Best for: everyone who already has Prime. And Channel K for Korean movies and K-pop concert films without a year-long commitment.
→ primevideo.com🎲 Gate Three — JioHotstar: The Wobbly Portal
It has Korean dramas. Sometimes. Unpredictably. This gate flickers.
It genuinely carries hit Korean shows — A Shop for Killers Season 2, Flex X Cop Season 2 and Made in Korea Season 2 all showed up recently. On 1 June 2026, Perfect Crown and Would You Marry Me? appeared in the "newly added" section with zero announcement, like a cat leaving a gift.
Translation: if you're about to pay for JioHotstar specifically and only to watch one particular Disney+ Korean drama — check that it's actually there first. Search it. Don't subscribe on hope.
Best for: people who already have it. Treat it as a bonus gate, never a plan.
→ jiohotstar.com💜 Gate Four — Rakuten Viki: The Lovers' Archive
A streaming service built only for Asian dramas. This is where the genuinely obsessed live.
Its subtitles are community-contributed — passionate fans translating into dozens of languages, often within hours of an episode airing in Korea. It publishes a lot of simulcast titles and has started adding Hindi audio for bigger shows.
The money part (good news): there's a free tier — ads, standard definition, a genuinely large slice of the library. Viki Pass gets you ad-free HD and early access. You can live in the free tier for a long time.
Titles here include My Bias, My Boss, A Bona Fide Killer, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim and True Beauty.
The catch: pricing varies by country, so check inside the app for the India price — and some titles are region-restricted even for paying members.
Best for: watching dramas while they're still airing, and finding older or niche stuff the big platforms ignore.
→ viki.com🖼️ Gate Five — MUBI: The Museum
The gate for Korean cinema. MUBI is available in India and curates rotating collections — including one literally called New South Korean Cinema — plus restored classics like the 1960 film The Housemaid, and auteur directors such as Hong Sang-soo.
The catch: the library rotates. What's here this month may be gone next. That's the point — it's a curated gallery, not a warehouse.
Best for: Korean films — arthouse, acclaimed, weird, beautiful — rather than episode-by-episode romance. The cinephile gate.
→ mubi.com👻 Gate Six — Viu: The Ghost Gate
Do not walk into this gate.
Everyone recommends Viu for Korean dramas in India. Search results still recommend Viu. App listings still say, cheerfully, that Viu brings "a hub of Korean content to India."
None of that is true anymore. Viu launched in India in 2016, ran for a few years, then shut down its entire India operation — its parent company decided India's streaming market was too expensive to compete in, and moved the money to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The app listings you'll find are stale leftovers from that era.
Today Viu is geo-blocked in India. You won't get in without tricks that break the platform's terms — and you won't find what you were promised once you do.
🥇 Amazon MX Player — the best free door in India
Free. With ads. No subscription.
Amazon MX Player has a section called MX VDesi — a genuine, legal, surprisingly large library of K-dramas dubbed in Hindi, with other Indian languages too. Watch through the Amazon shopping app, its own app, the website, or Fire TV.
Hindi-dubbed titles include Tempted, She Was Pretty, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, Cheer Up and Heirs — part of a free collection of ten-plus Korean dramas.
Verdict: never watched a Korean drama and never intend to pay? Start here tonight.
→ amazon.in🥈 ZEE5's FREE5 — free, Hindi-dubbed, no account needed
ZEE5 keeps a free, ad-supported collection called FREE5, stuffed with Hindi-dubbed Korean dramas. No paid plan — and by most accounts no account needed at all.
The line-up reads like a greatest-hits of the last decade: Descendants of the Sun, Strong Girl Bong Soon, W: Two Worlds Apart, Kill Me Heal Me, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, Extraordinary You, I Am Not a Robot, When The Weather Is Fine, Fight for My Way, Uncontrollably Fond, 18 Again, Welcome to Waikiki, Be Melodramatic, Youth of May, SF8.
Verdict: the best free-and-dubbed combination in India — and it doesn't even ask you to sign up. Want to sample five different Korean dramas this week for zero rupees? This is the place.
→ zee5.com🥉 Viki's free tier
Free with ads, standard definition, no card required. A huge library — just lower quality and interrupted. Perfect for testing whether a show is for you before paying anyone anything.
📜 No, you don't have to read subtitles
The single biggest reason people in India bounce off Korean dramas is the subtitle wall. Here's the reality, so you can stop worrying about it:
| What you want | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Hindi dubbing | ZEE5 FREE5 (free) · Amazon MX Player (free) · Prime Video (Hindi + Tamil + Telugu on new CJ ENM titles) · Viki (select titles) |
| English subtitles | Netflix · Prime Video · JioHotstar · Viki · MUBI |
| Other Indian languages | MX Player (multiple) · Prime Video (Tamil, Telugu) |
| Fastest subs for brand-new episodes | Viki — community-contributed, often within hours |
Bottom line: if you want to watch K-dramas while cooking, folding laundry, or sprawled on the floor like a tired starfish — free, legal, Hindi-dubbed options exist in India today. Start there. Nobody's grading you on subtitles.
🗡️ The part nobody tells you
Some of the best Korean viewing in India isn't on a screen you pay for. It's in a room, in Delhi, for free.
🇰🇷 The Korean Cultural Centre India (New Delhi)
A real place, run by the Korean government, and it does far more than you'd expect:
Free film screenings — including a programme called SAC on Screen, which turns Korean stage productions into high-definition films, screened free of charge. Recent editions included the musical Ahn Jung-geun, A Dance in the Heaven. A different production most months.
A K-pop competition running every single year since 2011. Their "K-Dream Stage" event filled a 3,000-seat venue in New Delhi — not a niche gathering, a stadium of people who all know the same fan chants.
It's also the hub for Korea–India film ties generally; Korea's culture minister visited in 2026 to discuss film collaboration with Indian industry figures.
🎞️ The Korean Film Festival (New Delhi)
Run with the centre. Historically, free tickets have vanished in about ten minutes — so follow their socials and set an alarm. Treat those tickets like a limited drop, because that's exactly what they are.
🎪 Festivals that quietly show Korean films
Watch Dharamshala International Film Festival (late Oct into early Nov), KASHISH in Mumbai (June) and IFFI in Goa. Korean films turn up in their line-ups far more than the posters advertise.
🏆 The Parasite story
In January 2020, Parasite became the first Korean film to get a proper wide theatrical release in India — around 100 screens, 20 cities. Before that, Korean cinema essentially didn't exist in Indian cinemas.
Since then it's been slow: most Korean cinema reaches India through festivals and streaming. But the direction is clearly one-way. In April 2026 India and Korea signed a deal to co-produce a film (working title Amor), and both film industries are actively courting each other.
Read that as: if you're getting into Korean film now, you're arriving early, not late.
🧭 The hunt order
You've heard about a drama. You want that one. Go in this order:
1. Search the title on JustWatch India — it tells you which Indian platform (if any) has it.
2. Check GQ India's weekly K-drama roundup — it names what dropped and where in India. Genuinely the best free tracker for Indian K-drama fans. Follow it.
3. Search "Korean" as a language filter on ZEE5 (dedicated Korean shows page) and Viki (Korean categories).
4. Ask r/kdramas with "India" in the question — somebody already solved your exact problem.
5. If nothing has it: it isn't licensed for India yet. Set a reminder for a few months. This is normal and it is not your fault.
🚫 Things that will waste your evening
| The trap | The reality |
|---|---|
| "Just use Viu" | Viu shut down in India. Geo-blocked. Ghost gate. |
| Pirate streaming sites | Malware, broken subtitles, low resolution, and it's theft. Every legal option above is free or cheap enough that there's no excuse. |
| VPN-ing into another country's catalogue | Sometimes works, but it breaks the platform's terms, payment methods often fail, and — crucially — if a show isn't licensed for India, a VPN usually doesn't fix it. The gap is legal, not geographic. |
| Subscribing for one single show | Verify it's actually there first. Especially on JioHotstar, where Disney+ Korean originals are genuinely hit-and-miss. |
| Waiting for a Korean film in an Indian cinema | Slow boat. Festivals and streaming are where it actually happens. |
| Assuming these prices last | They don't. Check the app before paying. Everyone raises prices eventually. |

Here's the thing nobody says out loud: the reason Korean storytelling travels so well isn't the romance or the plot twists. It's that Korean writers treat ordinary life — a dead-end job, a family debt, a friend you're losing — as material for the most dramatic thing in the universe. That lands everywhere. It lands especially hard when you're young and everything feels enormous.
So the gates are open, several of them are free, one of them is in Delhi with actual chairs, and one of them is a ghost that will steal your evening.
Pick the free one. Start tonight. And when someone tells you to use Viu — you know better now. 🗝️
